Energy Performance Certificates
Earthmine can carry out your domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and provide your Home Information Pack.
The EPC is an objective and non invasive process which evaluates your home so its energy efficiency can be compared with others. It takes into account the built form, size, level of insulation, heating systems, lighting and whether there are any solar panels. It gives you a score for energy efficiency and environmental impact (carbon dioxide emissions), with high scores indicating high efficiency and low emissions. It also gives the current energy use, costs and carbon dioxide emissions and the potential ones if you follow the recommendations. To work out the costs and energy use it assumes the same occupancy, heating patterns and geographical location for every home so that they can be compared. So the costs, etc shown on the certificate might not be the same as your actual ones, but it means you can compare different homes to see which would be cheaper to heat or which have lower emissions. You can also compare the recommendations to see what needs doing in each home to improve the energy efficiency
During the assessment the following areas must be inspected:
- All around the outside of the house
- Every room
- The loft
- Electricity and gas meters
- The heating system: boiler, hot water cylinder, controls (room thermostats, programmers), room heaters, water heaters
- Mechanical ventilation system if there is one
